Economic Accomplishments Highlighted in Downey’s 2018-19 Annual Report

The City of Downey released its annual report for fiscal year 2018-19 on Tuesday, where the city announced its accomplishments in several fields.

The report, authored by City Manager Gilbert A. Rivas, features highlights from the city’s fiscal responsibility goals. The city reported collecting of $14 million in grants, including grants from the state assembly, Southern California Edison, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn.

The city’s revenue and expenditures report showed that property taxes brought in the majority of the city’s revenue at $27.2 million while spending $5.7 million in administration. The recent increase in sales tax contributed to $26.9 million in revenue, as well.

Under the city’s economic accomplishments, it was documented that the sale of Maserati cars will be developed at the site of the Alfa Romeo/Fiat dealership on Firestone Blvd.

The report also documented the city’s efforts in the fight against homelessness. According to the report, the Downey Police Department will ramp up outreach efforts by partnering two designated officers with clinicians from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.
